The current coastal context indicates that many stretches of coast suffer from sediment scarcity and it is known that, in addition, meteorological and marine characteristics will undergo significant changes, affected by sea level rise and changes in storm regimes.
To these factors is added a massive human occupation that continues to grow. For all these reasons, the adaptation of coastal areas to current and future physical dynamics constitutes a genuine challenge for society.
The Franco-Spanish border strip is no exception to this problem, as demonstrated by the presence of numerous hard defence structures and the damage caused by severe storms such as Gloria in 2020.
For this reason, it is considered essential to have a comprehensive diagnosis of the current situation and the possibility and usefulness, for managers, of directing their management methods towards nature-based solutions, with the aim of strengthening resilience and adaptation of the coast against the risks associated with climate change.
